You know when you buy a couch at the store? It usually has a couple of “matching” throw pillows to go with it. I hate those pillows! Okay, I don’t hate them…but I don’t like them. Take a look at the pillows that came with this red couch. They are okay….but I think I can do better.
You can easily spruce up your old couch by adding some new throw pillows or accent pillows. I got the faux Mongolian lamb hair pillow on amazon ( I saw they have some at Target now too). The black pillow is just one of the pillows that came with the couch that I made a cover for. The grey accent pillow is something I painted myself (learn how on tomorrow’s post). You can also try adding a blanket or throw. I get cold easily and I love to always have a fuzzy blanket handy.
If you are hunting for affordable accent pillows try Target, Pier one, Ikea, Etsy, Urban Outfitters, or West Elm. Accent pillows are something that you can easily change over time as your style or the color palette evolves. When choosing colors for your new pillows, remember to pick colors that are already in the decor in your room. For this room, I chose grey, white, and black because those colors already show up everywhere in the room. This is my husband’s couch and I know he doesn’t like a lot of crazy patterns or florals so I tried to keep those to a minimum :) If you are not a fan of bright and colorful patterns try adding pillows with different textures. For example, if you want to use grey pillows, try getting one plain grey, get one fuzzy grey (like lamb hair), and try getting one sweater knit pillow. The use of different textures adds depth and interest even if they are all the same color!
Watch this video from Emily Henderson if you need some pillow arranging and pattern mixing tips. I could type some tips out here, but she explains it better than I can!
Do you update your couch with new pillows often?
